The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) manages the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). The NFIP provides flood insurance, improves floodplain management and develops flood hazard maps. The FEMA Flood Map Service Center (MSC) is the online tool to find the location of these hazard areas. Elevation certificates are used to determine the flood risk of property in a flood hazard area. Letters of Map Amendment (LOMA) and Letters of Map Revision (LOMR) are tools used to either remove property from a flood hazard area or to modify the existing regulatory floodway.
